In February, we spotlight Miriam Classen, a customer care representative for the PSEG Call Center. Take a minute to learn about Miriam and find out about her home’s repti-room.

Provide some quick background about yourself.
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. When I was younger my parents and I moved a lot and have lived in all five boroughs. Now, I have three beautiful girls of my own. My hobbies include cars, reptiles and shopping, but I like to rescue strays and volunteer at the animal shelter.
Prior to joining CMC, what did you know about energy efficiency or the industry? What made you join CMC?
I moved to Philadelphia in 2014. The staffing agency assigned me to CMC Energy as a customer care representative. I did not know anything about energy efficiency or the industry and I’m sure I seemed like a lost puppy when I was training for my CMC role.
What motivates you about the work that you do?
Motivation is the keyword to success, and I love helping people. Hearing their happiness over the phone when I can help them brings me joy. The group I work with treats me like family and the company is great at keeping me busy.
What was a recent personal or team “win” (project or initiative) that went well and/or you are proud of?
My definition of a win is moving up in the company, learning new skill sets and growing professionally in the process. I recently transferred programs from PECO (PA), to PSEG (NJ) and have quickly picked up the program, a personal victory.

What do you do for fun? Do you have any hidden talents or interests?
For fun, my family likes to visit different states and try one exciting thing. For example, we went to Salem, MA, to visit the filming location of the movie Hocus Pocus. I also enjoy my “repti-room,” which houses more than 26 reptiles and amphibians. I also have dogs, cats, birds, bunnies and fish. People say I have a zoo at home, but it is one of my favorite places. I also attend every Halloween Trunk-O-Treat Car show with my mother and give away candy to the kids. I’m proud to say I won the Best Trunk award in 2023!

Do you have any plans for the next few months?
My plan for 2024 is to take my daughters to NYC and stay at the TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) Airbnb and visit their filming scenes from the movie. That is happening in May, and we are all very excited.
