From phishing, smishing and fraudulent requests from “management,” bad actors are everywhere. The anonymity of electronic communication can lead to massive IT security breaches that compromise CMC’s infrastructure, jeopardize our partnerships and wreak havoc on our finances.

Over the last two months, you should have seen an increase in IT communications. These efforts are intended to create a safer and more secure CMC, led by Kevin Decker, our new Service Delivery Manager. He heads up our service desk, manages the KnowBe4 IT training modules and provides policy and procedure improvement based on analytics and feedback from CMC employees.

“It only takes one incident to cause millions of dollars in losses and destroy CMC’s reputation,” Decker said. “My goal is for continuous improvement of CMC employees’ IT awareness. Overall, we’re good, but we need to be great. Defending our IT security is a 24-7 effort we all share.”

Decker brings years of experience and discipline to CMC. Decker started here in the last week of October and has already made a huge impact on how the IT department communicates with employees.

A U.S. Air Force Veteran, Decker was part of the Air Crew Life Support Team. This group focused on inspecting and maintaining the life support systems and overall mechanical components of aircraft. Decker feels the constant vigilance with double and triple checks of systems translates perfectly to his role at CMC.

At home, Decker is a “cat dad” to his six cats. He is a die-hard Philadelphia Flyers fan and is excited the team now has some young talent poised to grow over the next few seasons. On top of this, he is a huge Dungeons and Dragons player taking on campaigns that can take months to complete.

In 2025, IT is going to be focusing on honing our skills and Decker has an initial tip he wants to relay to all staff: remember to reset your password when prompted! He explained that EVERY MONTH CMC has about 10-15 employees who let their password reset lapse and need IT to bail them out. With the number of reminders we receive, this number should be zero. It is a major headache for IT to reset our computers, so please help the team by resetting passwords ahead of the deadline.

In addition, we are phasing out The Inside Man training and moving to a new offering called Restricted Intelligence. This refresh will bring some fresh ideas and modules to our screens, offering the most up-to-date training for IT security as we enter 2025.

Continue to keep an eye out for communications from IT. Though we might feel we know the information, keeping CMC’s IT security front and center in our minds will keep us out of trouble, and keep CMC safe and operational for years to come. Welcome to CMC Kevin!
