Carbon footprint

It’s not always easy to communicate how important energy efficiency is – not just in the workaday world of lower bills, but also on the long-term health and well-being of our communities.

But we think we’ve found a way.

Starting earlier this year, we began to track the impact that the work we perform in your homes has on the air we breathe in our communities– specifically by measuring how much carbon dioxide the measures you’ve chosen to install prevent from entering our atmosphere.

How do we do this? It’s actually pretty simple: we created a calculator that uses the EPA’s CO2 conversion figures to assess the impact of our work, with a goal to make tangible the importance of the choices you make when you invest in energy efficiency in your Connecticut home.

So how are we doing?

Well, so far, we’re well on our way to meeting our company-wide goal of preventing 90 million pounds of carbon from entering our atmosphere in 2017.

How much is 90 million pounds of carbon dioxide saved? It’s the equivalent of:

  • Removing 8,742 passenger vehicles from the road
  • Recycling 14,224 tons of waste
  • Preventing 4.6 million gallons of gasoline (or 94,500 barrels of oil) from being consumed
  • Removing 44.6 million pounds of burned coal emissions
  • Avoiding 4.4 thousand homes worth of energy use

Not bad for a year’s work!

Thanks to your choice to invest in a home energy assessment from CMC Energy Services, we will continue to shrink the carbon footprint of our communities in the months and years to come – great news for you and your children.
