Everyone hates losing. Whether it’s at checkers or a bet amongst friends. So why would losing be tolerated inside your heating system?

CMC is a licensed Aeroseal dealer.

Energy efficiency loss through leaky existing ductwork is a serious—but often overlooked—problem for most homeowners. Did you know that air ducts in homes can leak up to 30 percent, leading to hundreds of dollars of energy waste from unsealed ducts?

“Most customers are not aware of how impactful leaky ductwork can be,” said Tim Fabuien, program manager for the Connecticut Single-Family programs. “I like to explain it like this: if you were to get a brand new (expensive) bathroom, wouldn’t you fix the leaky pipe behind the wall? Leaving the pipe would negate and ruin all the new materials you just had installed.”

The same is true with heating units. Many customers notice their house isn’t heating and cooling adequately, so they replace their furnace or heat pump, overlooking the leaky ducts. Without Aeroseal, ductwork upgrades are difficult and invasive. Repairing holes in walls and replacing drywall and insulation can get expensive quickly.

That’s why Aeroseal was a great addition to CMC CT in 2018. Aeroseal, a patented technology, helps homes become more energy efficient by sealing holes in the air ducts of heating and cooling systems without the need to remove drywall or break into walls to find leaky air ducts, which can add thousands of dollars to a duct-sealing project.

This chart, from the Department of Energy shows the actual efficiency of unsealed ducts.

A common misconception is that the sealant coats the inside of the ducts. This is not the case. The sealant exits through leaks and builds up in the holes throughout the system. The patented sealant can plug leaks up to 5/8ths of an inch. For holes larger than that size, traditional repairs are recommended. Typically, Aeroseal can improve air duct performance by 90 percent or more, effectively making a heating/cooling system more efficient.

By sealing ducts with Aeroseal, homeowners can cut down on dust and particulates in the heating/ cooling system, reduce heating and cooling bills and even make the mechanicals last longer since they don’t have to work as hard.

Did you know, know that the main bonding agent used in Aeroseal is the same as chewing gum and baby pacifiers? This means that the substance is non-toxic and completely safe for use in residential, commercial and industrial spaces.

CMC is the Number Six Aeroseal Dealer in the World

CMC is proud of the fact that of the 450+ licensed Aeroseal dealers worldwide, CMC consistently ranks in the top 10 for number of Aeroseal duct seals completed annually. When CMC first began using the technology, we were averaging 50-60 seals a year. We now average between 650 and 680 seals per year.

“Since we acquired the service in 2018, it has been a continued focus to see the Aeroseal department grow.” said Jason Briers, field operations supervisor for Connecticut Single-Family. “We went from running a single team to now having three teams providing Aeroseal daily. With the support of CMC and outside partnerships, we are always seeking ways to grow the department and continue to climb the Aeroseal leaderboard rankings.”

The proof is in the sealant. Currently, all the Connecticut energy efficiency programs are using Aeroseal, as is South Jersey Industries, and most recently, CMC has begun offering Aeroseal in the PECO portfolio.

Aeroseal has even piqued the interest of Microsoft Founder, Bill Gates. On his website, GatesNotes.com, he details the benefits of Aeroseal as a major way to help fight climate change.

“Aeroseal is an innovation that deals with the toughest part of building emissions, taking existing buildings, saving you money and reducing the climate burden,” Gates said.
