Let’s learn more about Scott!

Can you tell us a little bit about your professional background?
I started my career in the United States Navy working for the Naval Security Group Command as a cryptologist and was stationed around the United States and Europe, supporting US and Allied Forces. Since leaving the Navy, I have worked for DTE Energy in Detroit for 13 years in Corporate Strategy and Operational Excellence. Prior to joining CMC, I worked for Midland Credit Management as the Director of Legal Collections and led a team of 500 financial services professionals helping financial institutions and other creditors resolve complex receivables litigation issues.

How did you learn about CMC Energy Services?
Like most utilities across the country, DTE Energy engages with vendors like CMC to manage efficiency programs. Although DTE in Michigan doesn’t contract specifically with CMC, the industry has gained traction over the years as the demand for base load electricity has accelerated. The need for programs to help consumers more intelligently manage their consumption has become increasingly more critical to both utilities and consumers.

What interests you the most about CMC and its vision and values?
Big cities like Detroit, Chicago, Philly, etc. have a diverse customer base with a diverse level of financial capability to pay for their electric and gas bills. What I appreciate about CMC, and this industry in general, is it gives consumers avenues to address their energy needs while ensuring they have the resources to minimize their consumption using the latest technologies available.

Additionally, CMC helps the utilities they serve in a manner that promotes a better relationship with the Public Service Commissions that regulate their territory. CMC provides a win/win for energy companies and the consumers! Finally, this industry is expanding as the need for energy efficiency programs accelerates to address consumer and industrial demand (think AI Data Centers on the horizon). This demand gives companies like CMC the ability to hire employees who live and work in the communities where they serve, and that is also a win/win for all involved.

What do you do with your free time?
I spend lots of free time with my two children, ages 20 and 17. Additionally, I really enjoy running half marathons across the country, so I’m either going for a training run, or traveling to a race on the weekends. I love the crowds and the happy energy of those events. I also enjoy attending college sports with my kids here in Michigan (Go Blue!), or at my Alma Mater in Annapolis.

As a sports crazy company, what teams do you support?
I grew up idolizing John Elway and the Denver Broncos, so I will always cheer for them! I’m a grad of the University of Michigan and the United States Naval Academy, so I love college sports in particular! The Maize and Blue and Navy Blue and Gold are my favorites, of course!
