Our Employee Spotlight for November is Dan Bransfield, an energy advisor for the Connecticut single-family program. Let’s take some time to learn about our teammate Dan.

Dan Bransfield

Provide a quick background about yourself.
I was born and raised in Middletown, CT, just south of Hartford. I studied liberal arts at Clark University in Worcester, MA, and then Cybersecurity at Charter Oak State University. My wife and I moved back to Middletown and bought our first home in 2020 to raise a family. The real spotlight for me this year is my son, Benjamin Douglas Bransfield, born February 4. Watching him learn and grow has just been incredible!

Prior to joining CMC, what did you know about energy efficiency or the industry?
I got a glimpse of the residential efficiency programs back in 2007. I watched with intrigue as technicians set up a big, red tarp with a fan in our doorway, and I remember my dad raving about the drop in our electric bill with our cool, new, state-of-the-art CFL bulbs.

Dan hard at work.

Fast forward to 2018, I needed a career change and reached out to a former co-worker who had just become a lead technician. Soon after, I was setting up those big red doors as an assistant tech at CMC Energy Services. That old co-worker was Andrew Lodysnky, now a field supervisor for our single-family residential services!

What motivates you about the work that you do?
Growing up, we were always a paycheck away from disaster. I understand what it can mean for a struggling family when the heat stops working, a window breaks or the price of oil skyrockets. There is nothing more rewarding than when it all comes together and I can deliver new heating systems, windows and more to a struggling family. The reward is saying, “Don’t worry, we were able to get this fully covered for you.”

What do you like about the work that you do at CMC?
Every day brings a new set of challenges and potential rewards; there’s never a dull moment. I get to meet people from all walks of life and have made great connections with contractors, coworkers and customers alike doing this work. We have a great team here who will collaborate to overcome challenges and support each other in ways that, coming from the retail industry, I honestly didn’t believe could happen in the workplace!

The COLLECTION.
The Bransfield family.

What do you do for fun? Do you have any hidden talents or interests?
I’ve been an avid concertgoer since my teenage years and am (still) filling a drumstick rack that holds 24 sticks with drumsticks caught at concerts. Highlights include Modest Mouse, Terror, Whitechapel, Yellowcard and Papa Roach. They’re not as easy to get as when I was younger, but I only have two sticks to go, and I will complete the collection!

Do you have any plans for the next few months?
We are really looking forward to our first Halloween, Thanksgiving and holiday season with the baby. I’m also hoping to go see the 48 ½ year anniversary theatrical release of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
