This June, we spotlight Illinois’ own, Craig Cooper, Energy Advisor III. Take a minute to learn more about Craig, his military service and his new son, Noah.
Provide some quick background about yourself.
I was born and raised in Chicago. I’m a Southsider, but I’m a lifelong Cubs fan. In 2012, I graduated from high school and joined the Navy, where I served as a Culinary Specialist for the Strike Fighter Squadron, VFA 97 “The Warhawks”.
After the military, I came home and attended the HVAC Technical Institute, where I received my HVAC certifications. Some of my favorite hobbies are eating, swimming, basketball and spending time with loved ones.
Prior to joining CMC, what did you know of energy efficiency or the industry? What made you join CMC?
Prior to CMC, I worked for Franklin Energy as an Energy Auditor II. I didn’t know much about the industry before Franklin, however, once I got into it, I knew this is where home would be for me. CMC did QA/QC for Franklin and that was where I learned about the company.
What motivates you about the work that you do?
One of the biggest motivations for the work I do is being able to help the community. To know that I was able to come into someone’s home and provide a service that they need—potentially for no cost to them—is one of the most fulfilling feelings to me.

What was a recent personal or team “win” (project or initiative) that went well and/or you are proud of?
A personal win for me was the birth of my first son, Noah. He had some medical issues early in the pregnancy, but he held on and showed himself to be a fighter. Now, he’s here, happy, healthy and loves eating Cheetos.
What do you do for fun? Do you have any hidden talents, hobbies or interests?
My biggest source of fun has been the gym, spending time with my son and traveling to forest preserves for family nature walks.
Do you have any plans for the next few months, vacations, etc.?
We recently got back from Noah’s first birthday trip to Orlando. In a very short while, I will be taking some much-needed time off for a trip to Mexico with some friends.
