Bill Kopco

To kick off 2025, we spotlight Bill Kopco marketing program manager. Take a few minutes to learn about Bill, what he enjoys, and how he likes to spend his time outside of CMC. Take it away, Bill.

Provide me some quick background about yourself.
I’m originally from Johnstown, PA, but started my move east when I graduated high school. I went to Penn State University where I majored in advertising. I spent the first half of my career working for advertising agencies in Philadelphia, Minneapolis and suburban New Jersey.

I’ve been fortunate enough to work for some very diverse and interesting clients like Freschetta Pizza, the Adventure Aquarium, Tyvek, and along with a couple of fun ones,  like Steven Singer Jewelers and his infamous “I hate Steven Singer” campaign. I enjoyed the pace of the agency world and enjoyed having to learn new industries quickly to understand how to market them. Along with working on fun campaigns, I met my (even more) fun wife Tracy at one of the agencies. We’ve been happily married now for 25 years.

The second half of my career has been on the client side where I’ve worked for companies such as Bank of America, Vanguard, Freedom Mortgage and the Please Touch Museum. I’ve been with CMC for about a year now and I can honestly say it’s been one of the best experiences to date.

Prior to joining CMC, what did you know about energy efficiency or the industry? What made you join CMC?
I didn’t have a great deal of exposure to the energy industry before joining, but I naturally had a curiosity about energy efficiency. That curiosity led to me applying for a job here.  I was aware of CMC being named as a top employer and that was intriguing for me.

As for what made me join CMC – it truly was the people. My initial email exchange with Francis Cohen was refreshingly open and honest. Then we had a TEAMS call and that just proved that the openness was legit. I then met Felicia DiCicco, and the authenticity of our people really came through. I believe our call was only supposed to last 30 minutes and we easily doubled that. I was hooked and knew I wanted to work here.

What motivates you about the work that you do?
Once again, I will say that the people of CMC consistently provide a reason to be motivated at work. I work with both PPL and the CMC CT teams and I see the commitment to great work and serving customers as the core focus of our work ethic. Their enthusiasm matches mine and I enjoy knowing that I’m helping low-income families enjoy a more comfortable life.

What was a recent personal or team “win” (project or initiative) that went well and/or you are proud of?
In a short time, I am proud of a few projects but the one that stands out the best is my work with the CMC CT team. It’s the first time we have provided more extensive marketing support, and all sides of that team are comprised of hard-working smart people who are fun to work it. As for a specific project, I’d have to say it’s the work we are doing with the CMC CT Multifamily team.

We just implemented our first Salesforce Marketing Cloud email deployment and have plenty of other items that we are working on together to help move the needle forward.

What do you do for fun? Do you have any hidden talents, hobbies or interests?
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I have two girls, the oldest just recently graduated from Drexel University and will be continuing her studies to become a Physician’s Assistant.  My youngest is a sophomore at Philadelphia Community College. Surprisingly, my girls are roommates living in South Philly.

Go Birds!

My wife and I are big Eagles fans and we never miss a game. We’re lucky that she works for an agency where the Eagles are one of her clients so we get occasional access to a suite – it truly is a sweet way to watch a game and it’s kept us warm and dry during a few rough games. Fun fact, my go-to Eagles Jersey on game day is Connor Barwin. I liked him because of his stance on energy conservation.

Along with that, I started writing a book during Covid and I’m determined to get back that to finish it up. It’s an intriguing concept that I need to get moving on!

Do you have any plans for the next few months?
This past summer my wife and kids went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We found the people there to be exceptionally nice. We keep in touch with some of the people we’ve met there. We plan on going back since there’s much more of the city we want to explore since found it hard to leave the resort during our first stay.
