Forced air HVAC systems are great (if you have vents rather than baseboards or radiators, you have a forced air system), but they do have one significant efficiency drawback: much of the air you pay to or cool never makes it into your living space. Instead, it leaks through cracks in your ductwork into, then out of, your building envelope.
How much air is lost en route to your living room? Anywhere from five to fifteen percent, according to a recent joint study by the Comfort Institute and the Greater Cincinnati Energy Alliance (GCEA).
The good news is that you can gain some or all of that lost air (and money) back by having your ducts professionally sealed – something that we here at CMC Energy are seeing firsthand as we implement our first multifamily project as an Aeroseal dealer.
The project – a 112 unit multifamily installation at the Seramonte apartments in Hamden, CT, is now complete – and we are already seeing improvements that bring 50-year-old ductwork to modern performance standards.
It’s pretty incredible – we’re excited to tell you more about it in the coming months on this blog!
