Picking up pinecones. Hacking down invasive plants. Helping at a veteran’s home. These efforts were all part of CMC’s volunteer days in October that allowed CMC to demonstrate one of our values: You Before I, Humbly Serving.
“I’ve never worked at a company that supports volunteering,” said Dora Vega, a customer care representative working on the PPL program, who helped clean up a trail in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park on October 24. “When I saw the notice to volunteer, I was like ‘Yeah!”
“It was nice to connect with so many co-workers away from the office, Zoom calls and Teams,” said Jon Curtis, marketing manager for New Jersey. “Plus, the weather was beautiful and we got a lot done in support of a great cause.”
CMC employees like Vega and Curtis participated in volunteer events in Chicago, Connecticut, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Worcester, MA, last month. For some, volunteering is a way of life, while others used the events to reconnect with old friends and make new friends.
“I enjoy volunteering because it’s a chance to give back to the community we live and work in,” said Marcus Bowman, a field technician working on the Low Income Usage Reduction Program for PECO.
CMC’s Senior HR Recruiter Frances Cohen was all smiles during the New Jersey event saying, “who would have thought picking pinecones would be so tiring! But I’m happy we have a large number of employees that volunteered to help.”
“I saw this as a great opportunity to see everyone I know and meet some of the people that I helped hire,” said Gwynne Feinstein, HR business partner, who helped at the Philadelphia event. “After Covid, it’s a real treat to see people in person again. It’s just great!”
